The clowns of the tree tops, always on the hunt for nuts and seeds. Many may feel they are a pain, but I have always enjoyed them. My Grandmother once
told me a story that I beleived for most of my youth, it was about how when she was a young girl she wanted roller skates and being poor, that wasn't possible.
Her father caught two large Minnesota Black Squirrels and carefully tied them to the bottom of her shoes. He helped her onto her feet and off she went, like a
rifle shot across the yard. She quickly learned that if she raised one foot or the other she could turn this way or that way. She said she had the time of her
life rideing her squirrels. But she soon got tired and the only way she could think of stopping was to throw a walnut out in front of her. But this only caused
her to spin like a top, for it only stopped one squirrel not the other. So she threw out another walnut for that one too.
Everywhere she went she would go by squirrel. That was until a neighbors dog chased her up a tree, and she was left hanging there upside down with her dress
up over her head and her bloomers there for all to see. But that's another story for another time.
